Looking across the fingers of mesa top from Sublette New Mexico, we're looking towards Big Horn, a station on the former D&RGW San Juan Extension as Cumbres and Toltec 484 in her 1972 garb comes out of a cut on its way westward towards Chama. Along this portion of the Denver and Rio Grande Western the views are for miles, and you'd probably be able to see the curvature of the earth if it wasn't for the fact that the Sangre de Christo mountains seen here above the train create a backdrop that ends the San Luis Valley. Below the Sangres, you can also pick out Ute Mountain (no, not THAT Ute Mountain), a shield volcano on the east side of the Rio Grande (this is NOT San Antonio Mountain, a similar built volcano).
