Remarks & Notes

Amtrak train 9, the westbound North Coast Hiawatha, makes a station stop in Livingston on a cold and snowy December day. The power for this train, SDP40Fs 531 and 576, has been "blue flagged" while it has its water tanks refilled in order to keep the two steam generators on each unit working to keep the passenger warm. The North Coast Hiawatha service between Chicago IL and Seattle WA began a few months after the creation of Amtrak in 1971, and ceased operations in 1979.
