      Remarks & Notes
Union Pacific GP40P-2 1375, the former Southern Pacific 7602, originally SP 3199) is one of just three GP40P-2s built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division – all for the SP. Purchased as passenger power for the SP's Bay Area commute (as they called them) trains, they were eventually downgraded to freight service once CalTrain assumed the San Jose to San Francisco operation. Of course, when the Union Pacific absorbed the SP in 1996, these three (fairly) unique locomotives became UP property. UP 1375 arrived in Anaheim in September 2021 to work on the railroad's locals between Anaheim and Santa Ana, and Anaheim and Orange. And for much of that time, it somehow remained graffiti-free! But, as can be seen in this view of an hours-late Coast Mesa Local (which only goes to Santa Ana, and not Costa Mesa, these days, but the name stuck), symbolled LAO32, heading back to Anaheim at 3:23 pm (15:23 for the rest of the world), the taggers have discovered where this interesting locomotive is stored each evening, and they don't respect others' property. *Sigh* So, between the graffiti and the driver from Nevada who just couldn't wait to continue east on Santa Ana street (*sigh*), I'll just have to make do with this shot of UP 1375 and 1083 bringing seven cars (mostly, if not all, empties) through downtown Anaheim. (Anaheim, California – December 19, 2022). And a tip o' the lens cap to Robert Tinkham for the heads up on this late train!
