Amtrak’s westbound California Zephyr hurries westward out of Leyden, Colorado, and will soon be ascending through the curves and tunnels through the Rocky Mountains on July 12, 2009. On the rear of No. 5 this day is a trio of former California Zephyr cars that passed over this route countless times. Alas, nothing is forever—dome-observation Silver Solarium no long operates out on the main lines of the west.
