| The south side of Chicago is full of treasures when it comes to trains. On the list of treasures is Maryland Pig Iron of Illinois' veteran Conrail SW8. Still in virtually untouched Conrail big blue, the #8687 is in the process of skirting the shore of the Calumet River, bringing six empty gondolas that it picked up from the South Shore Line back to the plant. 8687 was built as the Lehigh Valley 273 in September of 1951 and has spent a good number of years working for Maryland Pig.
