Having just crossed into California from Arizona, an Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway freight awaits a fresh crew to continue its journey westward on the railway's Needles Sub. ATSF SD40-2s 5179 and 5134, GP35s 2946, 2917 and 2876, and a GP50 (the number of which is not legible) will power this train as it crosses the Mojave Desert to Barstow, and then – most likely – on to either Los Angeles or the Bay Area.
