683-2000 Series was a dual-voltage train used on limited express service Shirasagi between 2002-2015. After being replaced by the -8000 subseries, they received conversion work into DC power-only trains. JR West renamed these trains as 289 Series and began to operate them on services Kounotori, Kuroshio, etc.
