On a line dominated by coal trains, the Denver to Galesburg train provides a welcome splash of variety. There has been plenty of change in the 25 years since this photo was taken. The searchlights and the bridge they were on have been replaced. The code line south of the tracks is gone and overgrown. In the small town of Prescott the water tower has been retired and replaced. GP60Bs are getting quite scarce around BNSF. Interestingly, BNSF 982 is still working the mainline as I witnessed last month leading a train west of Spokane on the ex-NP.
Photos showing the railroad pole lines. The pole line used four basic electrical circuits - telegraph, telephone, signaling, and power. Modern technologies of fiber optics, microwave, radio, satellite, and computers have been replacing the pole lines.
