Waking up the Sheepscot Valley. Just past 7AM on a mid-winter morning, the residents of Maine's Sheepscot Valley awaken to the staccato exhaust beats of a narrow gauge mixed train as it makes its way south from the hinterlands to the coastal town of Wiscasset. The Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway (WW&F) served the mid-coast of Maine from its inception as the Wiscasset & Quebec in 1895 until it shut down suddenly in 1933.
This image was captured just after sunrise, during a February, 2024 photo shoot on Maine's Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum. The museum was founded 1989, and will celebrate it's 35th anniversary in 2024. In just a couple of years, the museum will have been in existence longer that the original railroad ever was.
