Just 1 hour 42 minutes late (believe it or not, that’s not too bad for Amtrak 3, the westbound Southwest Chief), Amtrak P42DCs 161 (dressed in the carrier's original paint scheme for their 50th Anniversary) and 203 (painted for Operation Lifesaver, an organization promoting safety when encountering railroad tracks) as the train, which originated in Chicago IL, heads for its final stop, Los Angeles. The train has eight cars, but the first two are not Amtrak cars, but rather Metrolink cars returning to LA after being rebuilt in Wisconsin … and now decked out in Metrolink's third paint scheme for passenger cars, which originated in late 2023.
