| Union Pacific 4014 thunders westbound at Speer Junction with a cut of empty hoppers. The test run from Cheyenne to Lynch siding and return was intended to test and certify the new fully onboard PTC systems installed on the engine, replacing the LeaPTC system that the engine was equipped with between 2021 and 2023. The onboard PTC system negates the need for a diesel to use as a PTC master, allowing for the Big Boy to run on its own on the main line for the first time since its restoration. |
