On a hot afternoon (92o F / 33.333oC, with 58% humidity) storm clouds have built up over the San Gabriel Mountains. The problem, of course, is lightning, which could possibly start new fires in the state that is already being ravaged by wildfires this summer. Lightning was detected, but fortunately there appear to be no new fires in the mountains as a result.
Passing through CP Maple, where Metrolink’s Olive Sub diverts from their Orange Sub (are all their subdivisions named for fruits?) is Metrolink train 699X. X? Yes, as this not a daily train, but rather an Angels Express, a train operating from Oceanside to Anaheim periodically, when the Angels baseball team is in town on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. And this afternoon, the New York Mets are visiting Anaheim, thus this Angels Express, stopping to pick up fans en route. (There are also two other Angels Express trains, too, originating in Los Angeles and Riverside.) This train, powered by SCAX F125 916, is bisecting Chapman University as it departs the Orange station and heads to its next, and last, stop, Angel Stadium, adjacent to the station in Anaheim.
