Five-and-a-half hours after being pulled out of the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds/Rail Giants Museum (at 2:30 am), the big steam locomotive, flanked by two diesels, backs onto UP train PWCWC2 25, which consists of a pair of SD40-2s (1596 and 1739) and ten covered hoppers. The SD40-2s will lead this train westbound to Bassett, at which point the train will transition from Metrolink’s San Gabriel Sub onto UP’s Alhambra Sub, and head east to West Colton yard.
