After switching a nearby industry, Conrail Shared Assets train OI-16 heads to Sayerville, New Jersey, and Browns Yard. Illustrating the concept Conrail Shared Assets, this train, which originated in Oak Island NJ, has two Norfolk Southern Railway locomotives (SD45-2s 1702 and 1700, wearing predecessor Erie Lackawanna colors) and two CSX Transportation locomotives (GP40-2 4412 and GP38-2 2798).
Conrail Shared Assets Operations (CSAO) is the commonly used name for modern-day Conrail (reporting mark CRCX), an American railroad company. It serves as a contract local carrier and switching company for its owners, CSX Transportation and the Norfolk Southern Railway. When most of the former Conrail's track was split between these two railroads, the three shared assets areas (a total of about 1,200 miles of track in the North Jersey, South Jersey/Philadelphia, and Detroit Shared Assets Areas) were kept separate to avoid giving one railroad an advantage in those areas.
