| All 44 SNIM locomotives in Mauritania are equipped with special sand plows. These are located behind the permanently mounted plows, are attached to the frame of the bogies and can be lowered hydraulically to the top edge of the rails to plow away sand. How effectively this really works and how often these plows are or were actually used, I have no idea. After over 60 years of operating the line, the places where sand is blown onto the track should be more or less familiar. The SNIM maintenance staff usually take care of this with shovels.
