| The sun is setting when an empty 68 car long LKAB iron ore train from Lule? to Koskullskulle in G?llivare is seen approaching the meeting track at Ripats some 50km (30miles) north of the arctic circle. Leading the train are Iore locomotives 123 "Riksgr?nsen" and 101 "Polcirkeln". All 34 Iore locomotives are named after stations along the Malmbanan and Ofotbanen rail lines linking the iron ore mines at Kiruna and G?llivare to the ports of Narvik and Lule?.
In the foreground is a fence designed to keep reindeer and other wild animals off the rails. |
