Remarks & Notes

Fresh out of the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway's San Bernardino Shops are two SDF40-2 locomotives. These were former Amtrak SDP40Fs that the ATSF acquired 18 of in a trade for 43 switchers. ATSF 5263 is the former Amtrak 639, and ATSF 5262 is the former Amtrak 629. Along with removing the steam generators and adding handrails to the front walkways, these locomotives' were also rebuilt mechanically. (San Bernardino, California – April 12, 1985)
