The Rotonde ferroviaire de Chambéry, or simply La Rotonde, is a locomotive shed belonging to the Société nationale des chemins de fer fran?ais (SNCF) in Chambéry in the French department of Savoie.
Built between 1906 and 1910, it is the main building of the Technicentre de Chambéry railroad engineering facility. This depot and maintenance facility is located 500 m north of the SNCF Chambéry - Challes-les-Eaux station and is connected to it via shunting tracks. The Rotonde de Chambéry is the largest locomotive depot of the “roundhouse” type built in France and is also the last and only French building of the “roundhouse” type with a completely covered interior. Together with the Castle of the Dukes of Savoy, this important work of industrial architecture is one of the most important sights in the departmental capital. The rotunda has been registered as a monument historique since 1984 and was awarded the Patrimoine du XXe siècle by the French Ministry of Culture in 2005. The building has a diameter of 110 meter and is 34 meter high, with 36 tracks for up to 72 locomotives/railcars. Only a small part of the building, which is used for round-the-clock maintenance and vehicle parking, is open to the public during tours.
