The Oberwei?bacher Bergbahn, renamed the Thüringer Bergbahn in 2020, is a railway line in the Thuringian Slate Mountains, now operated by DB RegioNetz Verkehrs GmbH Oberwei?bacher Berg- und Schwarzatalbahn. Since 1922, it has connected the Obstfelderschmiede stop on the Schwarzatal Railway with the municipality of Cursdorf. To overcome the height difference of more than 300 meters between the Schwarzatal valley and the plateau, a funicular railway with a gauge of 1800 mm was built from Obstfelderschmiede to Lichtenhain. We are aboard the open convertible car, which is standing on the so-called “freight platform,” which was formerly used to transport freight cars, on the mountain ascent. The “Lichtenhain” car comes toward us at the mountain railway crossing. The lady in the red jacket is the operator, who has time to play with a dog during the ride.
