San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni) PCC cars 1052, 1078, and 1080 are seen at 17th & Castro, awaiting their turns to reenter service on the F Market & Wharves line. The Muni PCC fleet is painted in various liveries of transit operators that formerly - or in limited instances currently - operated PCC cars. Car 1052 is painted for the Los Angeles Railway, which operated the "yellow cars" in the SoCal city. Car 1078 is painted for the San Diego Electric Railway, and car 1080 is painted for the infamous National City Lines. NCL was a holding company backed by General Motors, Firestone Tire, Standard Oil, and other automotive industry corporations that took over streetcar operations in Los Angeles and numerous other American cities with the ultimate goal of shutting down the systems and converting them to buses - a process now known as the "General Motors streetcar conspiracy."
