Stainless Special.
New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) R11/R34 car 8013 (Budd, 1949) is the lead motor on an NY Transit Museum nostalgia ride seen departing Kings Highway Station during the annual Parade of Trains event. These cars were the first stainless steel R-type cars built for the subway - a design feature which has now become standard for the fleet! Only 10 of the cars were ever built, with the remainder of the planned 400-car order cancelled due to the halt of construction on the Second Avenue Subway. |
