A White Pass family portrait. Sitting side by side on the platform at Frasier, BC (MP 27.8), we see the locomotive icons that have provided the power on this line for more than half a century. On the right is the sole, remaining example of the last class of steam locomotive built for this line in the form of the 1947 Baldwin Mikado #73. In the center is GE 90-Class #98, one of just 3 examples of famous "shovelnoses" that can still operate. And on the left, Alco DL-535s #s 110 and 109 provide their own smoke show as they also represent 2 of the last 3 of these engines left on this line. With the numbers of the two diesel-electric classes shrinking every year, it is possible that in the not-too-distant future, a "family portrait" like this will no longer be possible.
This image was captured during a September 2025 photo shoot on the White Pass & Yukon Route, which featured Baldwin Mikado #73, the last remaining steamer on the line.
