The 8700 crosses the chip truck crossing for the final time. I would trade the half-ton (to get back down to the plant) for the sticks to spot the 8700 out to CP. A sad site indeed.

The final moment... Train 220 arrives to pick up the CANX 8700 from the now idled Marathon Pulp mill. The engine is bound for Montreal and with it goes my career on the industrial railway in town.
The final woodchip cars are spotted at the receiver. The mill will be idled indefinitely once the softwood chip pile to the right is emptied. This is expected to be within a few days. The CAT D7 c... (more)
The days are ticking away for firing this beast up. Four days earlier it was announced that Marathon Pulp would shut down for an indefinite period of time once the woodchips are cleaned out.
I just couldnt pass this scene up! As a Laidlaw Pete pulls away with a load bound for Pennsylvania, I pull away with 15 truck loads (5 boxes) of pulp for Memphis, TN and Chester, PA!
