    Remarks & Notes
DITCHED, part 2: ATTACHING CABLES. On Wednesday, February 9, 2011, a southbound New England Southern light engine struck a patch of ice and toppled a full 130 degrees off the tracks and down an embankment. The FRA blamed illegal snowmobile activity as the cause of the ice pack. In this scene, crews from Winter's Rigging attach cables to the locomotive before dragging it from the ditch. They reminded me of emergency room doctors working feverishly to save a patient. I was surprised at just how fast these guys got that engine back on the track! Digital photo. Taken from a controlled scene with the explicit permission of local law enforcement and first responders. Click here to view my next photo of the cleanup.
